Joel's (Baby) Portrait Wins an Award!

This has been a great week for Joel. Not only did he have a kick-ass baby studio session as well as really cool engagement shoot (at the groom's private airplane hangar! more on this later) but he also won an award for his work. Joel got 1st place in the environmental/portrait category in the monthly PPGBA (Professional Photographers of Greater Bay Area) meeting! This is a great award to win since it is given by a panel of critical professional colleagues. The subject of the winning photo was none other than our little botanist Noah. The judges loved the angle of the photo as well as Noah's look of intense focus and determination.

Joel previously won PPGBA's Print of the Month competition back in Jan/Feb 2007.

First Dance (Summitpointe Wedding)

I love this romantic shot first dance shot. It somehow conveys the tenderness of the moment better than a photograph of the couple's faces would. It is from a wedding Joel worked alongside his friend and colleague Paul Tedrick with last weekend.

The wedding took place at Summitpointe Golf Course in the foothills of Milpitas.
The beautiful, blond bride chose a striking combination of blue and yellow as her colors: The bridesmaids wore blue and carried bouquets of yellow calla lilies and even the cake was decorated with blue frosting. The following shot shows the vibrant cool color scheme as well as how much fun the bridal party always has with Joel.  Should I be jealous???

What happens when a wedding photographer goes to friends' wedding? (Trevigne Wedding)

Once in a while Joel gets to attend weddings - not as a photographer, but as a wedding guest himself. When this happens you'd think he'd just want to relax... Each time we attend a wedding Joel plans to not take pictures but once there, he finds it too hard to resist the urge and just can't help himself. This picture is from our friends' reception at the Trevigne Restaurant in St. Helena, Napa Valley. I think it captures the magic and romance of the evening and is beautifully lit.

Some of Joel's favorite wedding locations

One of the fun aspects of wedding photography is that Joel gets to work in variety of beautiful surroundings. Joel has gotten around to most of the most popular ceremony and reception sites. Some of his favorite Bay Area wedding locations are:

Stanford - Memorial Church, Palo Alto
The Sainte Claire Hotel, San Jose
Hotel Valencia, Santana Row, San Jose

St. Paul & Peter Church, North Beach, San Francisco

Testarossa Vineyard, Los Gatos

Nestldown, Santa Cruz Mountains

Costa Noa, Pescadero, CA

Proud Wife blogs about Photographer Husband!

I'm proud of the wedding photography business my husband Joel Carrico has been building for the past 5 years. Joel is passionate about photography, his clients and designing beautiful albums. Meanwhile, I'm passionate about helping him run a business doing something he loves... So I've decided to blog about his accomplishments and all the wonderful work he does for his clients.

Check out Joel's website http://www.joelcarrico.com/

Now Joel is growing the business to include more studio portraiture of pregnancy, babies and families in general. His business evolution reflects the evolution of our family: My pregnancy and the birth of our son Noah has been Joel's great inspiration to get more involved in studio work.
